Our Origin Story
Twenty-five years in Human Resources. One conviction: nobody in a workplace should ever be made to feel unwise.
When I tell people what I do for a living, they flinch. Employees. Friends. Strangers at a dinner party. The moment they hear “Human Resources,” I watch the same reaction, every time. Because to most people, HR is scary. Intimidating. If HR is in your office, you're either in trouble or you're getting fired. After 25 years in this profession — as an HR generalist across the public, private, and non-profit sectors — I understand exactly where that reputation came from. Somewhere along the way, HR forgot the human part of the equation.
But here's what happens next, every single time. Those same people sit down and have an actual conversation with me, and something shifts. They can sense that my intention is to genuinely understand them — and to help them through whatever they're going through. That shift is the entire reason I started this company.
I believe people are doing the best they can with what they know. An employee's expertise is the work they do for the company, day in and day out. They shouldn't be shamed — or made to feel unwise — because they don't understand the benefits paperwork that landed on their desk. Think about what that costs everyone. Companies invest real money in benefits and resources their people never use — not because employees are ungrateful, but because no one gave them a compassionate, trusted person to help them use what they've been given. The company loses the investment. The employee loses the help. Nobody wins, and everybody could have.
Twenty-five years of employee relations, benefits, leadership development, and the systems that hold it all together taught me one thing that holds true everywhere: a win-win solution can be found when both the company and the employee want what's best for the humans that make companies successful. Not the humans that work for companies — the humans that make companies successful. Because they do.
That's why I founded A Wise Man Group — so that nobody in a workplace is ever made to feel unwise again. Not the employee who doesn't understand their benefits. Not the manager having their first hard conversation. Not the executive who senses something's off but can't name it.
A word to the wise — from A Wise Man Group. Let's get to work.
